Born in Los Angeles, Catherine received her B.A. in history from UCLA, her M.A. from Cambridge University, England and her Ph.D. in diplomatic history at the London School of Economics. Her research in London culminated in her book Oil, War and Anglo-American Relations, published by Praeger/Greenwood, which chronicles the story of the Mexican oil nationalization on the eve of World War II. Julian Nava, former US ambassador to Mexico, contributed the book’s foreword. She has had numerous academic appointments at a variety of universities including the London School of Economics, the University of Paris, Cal State Northridge and UCLA.
Currently she runs Jayne Communication Strategies, a public relations and marketing company specializing in oil, energy and finance.
